For gravel, trails and uneven routes, focus on controlled handling rather than a single headline number. Tire size, brakes, suspension, bike fit and manageable power delivery all contribute to confidence away from smooth pavement.
Review the terrain access rules where you plan to ride. Motor-power and speed limits differ by location, and some models or settings may be restricted to private land.
Look at tire width and tread, suspension, brake type, frame fit, payload and usable battery range on hilly ground. A model should remain controllable at the speeds and surfaces you intend to ride.
Fat tires can provide useful flotation and traction on loose ground, but no tire removes the need for careful pressure selection and riding technique. Deep sand, wet roots and loose gravel still require caution.
Rules vary by country and location. Check local power, assistance, speed, registration, insurance and equipment requirements; higher-output configurations may be limited to private land.
